The MC staff with Lurlene McDaniel

As we have been telling our students, Lurlene is now a "close, personal friend of ours." She really is a wonderful lady, and was enjoyable to listen to at our conference.

Dalton State College ETTC Consortium - Spring 2007

Ms. Bremner, Mrs. Hackney, and Mr. Murry attended the Spring Consortium at the Dalton Trade Center. This was presented by the DSC ETTC. There were about 80 media center staff people from the North Georgia area. Judy McIntire and her staff prepared a great day of events.

Lulene McDaniel, who called herself the Queen of Crying & Dying, was the first speaker. She is a very interesting woman. She writes what she knows, and she really does understand her YA audience. Our girls have her books in their hands all year long.

The second speaker was from the TIE Network of GPB. Joy was very good at informing us about the material available on their website. It looks like good things are happening there. Check out the resources AND get involved in the network teachers.

Alan Guyton (of ETTC) showed us PhotoStory as a means of creating videos from still images. Judy mentioned that ESS teachers might want to use this for their new reporting requirements to the State DOE.

The afternoon session was a Whale Done! workshop. Ken Blanchard's update of developing personal relationships is done in correlation with Sea World's killer whale trainers.

We had a great time, and learned several things we plan to implement over the next few weeks and next school year. Thanks ETTC!

NEW BOOKS - About 450 of 'em

We recently added about 450 books to our collection. About half are from our Science Fiction and Fantasy order. Many students requested that we increase our collection variety, and a few students actually helped us put the order together. We will have these books on our New Books Carts for a few days. AR tests have been ordered, and should ba available very soon.

The second half of the new books are from the Scholastic Warehouse sale. Ms. Bremner and Mr. Murry went to Kennesaw over the mid-winter break and spent 4 hours selecting a few classroom sets, replacement books, and we found some new ones too.

The teachers were invited to Biscuits & Books to preview the books and enjoy a small breakfast early in the week. The books are ready to be checked-out, so come in and find yourself a good book.
